Mumbai Meri Jaan - Public Pareshan

Mumbai Meri Jaan – Public Pareshan.
The city of 7 islands –Mumbai is dream destination for many people from all over have come here and chased their dreams here.
It has been also favourite tourist destination due to sea shore, bollywood studios, and places of worship, museum, aquarium and amusement park.
However off late this city of substance is giving pain to many. Life here is becoming difficult and lot of hardships are faced by residents and visitors.
  1. Public Transport
The local trains of Mumbai are backbone of City’s life. In this city people travel to work covering distance of 20 to 50 kms. The local train is only fastest and economical transport available. People purchased houses at far off places based on connectivity to railway station.
Pandemic has put restriction on local train travel and this has crippled common man who is not able to attend to his work place and has affected livelihood of many.

  1. Infra projects

  1. Metro
The authorities have opted for elevated Metro and this has caused havoc at different places due to construction activity. Normally in city development Metro lines are laid in phased manner. However in Mumbai all projects have started together. Practically every road has been dug up for Metro Pillars and foot paths for Metro Station.
This is causing tremendous inconvenience to motorists and also pedestrians.
Metro line 1 which is running has occupied central lane due to its pillars. Also there are stations at short distance and there is congestion due to standing Auto Rickshaws near these stations for last mile connectivity.

  1. Mono Rail
The project of Mono rail also has created construction of pillars right at the centre of road. It has also blocked central lane. The project has run into difficulty due to non availability of spares. Today frequency is very low and it is not proving to be useful for general public

  1. Coastal Road
The pride of Mumbai was drive on Marine Drive, Haji Ali and Worli Sea Face. Today big metallic screens have been erected blocking sea view. What we see is big cranes, piling machines and boulders. The land reclamation has been done near Haji Ali. This is in spite of earlier bad experience of reclamation at BKC, Bandra, and Versova etc.

  1. Flyovers
The construction of flyover at Kalanagar, Bandra and Ghatkopar causes huge traffic jams.

  1. Sky Walks
Earlier Sky Walks were constructed for pedestrians coming out of station or entering station. They could avoid walking on the road. These Sky Walks and foot over bridges are broken at many places to enable Metro line to pass.

  1. Underground Services
Every now and then roads are dug up for laying underground cables, water pipe lines, drainage lines etc. This also is causing hardships for Mumbaikars.

  1. Cable network
The street poles are used to tie black cables presumably for cable TV. This is most primitive way of doing work and in many places excess cables are just abandoned.

  1. Foot Path and railings
The work on fixing tiles on footpath and fixing railing is undertaken. However no effort is made to remove debris after work is completed.

  1. Narcotics Control

It is open fact that use of drugs is happening from Punjab to Kanyakumari and Kutch to Puri. We do not know as to why bollywood is targeted. This Industry gives employment to many. Actors, Singers, Comedian, Cameraman. They work in 2 shifts and sometimes even in 3 shifts. The houses are raided and if something is found then they are called to NCB office.
As such what is required is cracking of supply chain and peddlers. Why target only Mumbai when it is available everywhere else too.

  1. Air Quality

The air quality of Mumbai is deterioting and in many localities it is dangerous or not safe for human beings. What is being done to save Mumbaikar? Is there any plan to stop unauthorised burning of garbage? When are we going to take action on tanneries, country liquor bhattis and tyre burning?

  1. Taxation
The property tax, water tax, electricity tax etc. is highest in Mumbai. Even Petrol and Diesel prices are highest as compared to other Metros. The prices of essentials like milk, vegetables, grain etc. is highest here.

  1. MMR Region
Mumbai Metropolitan Region which covers Thane, Kalyan, Virar, Navi Mumbai etc. has become integral part of Mumbai. Every time they enter Mumbai by road and leave Mumbai there is toll tax payable.

Finally , the Mumbaikar has been burdened with so much expenditure and inconvenience that he has to go through lot of harassment and still pay heavily just for staying or working in Mumbai.
