History Repeats in case of PandemicThe second wave of Corona virus has crippled us completely. It has made us sad, angry and at the same time worried about our future and well being of loved ones. The spread is very fast and health infrastructure is not able to cope up.
There is shortage of oxygen, medicine, hospital beds and many more things. The initial reaction to such situation is to leave everything, stop economic activity, avoid public contact completely and worry continuously. In past also Pandemics have come and gone. Mankind has faced the same and have reduced its spread if not eradicated completely.Spanish flu was there from 1918 to 1920. It affected 1/3rd of World population at that time. The flu was observed in Europe, USA part of Asia and then it spread all over the world way Corona virus has spread today. It was first detected in March 1918 at US army camp at Kansas. The troop movement during the World War 1 further fuelled the pandemic. In September 1918 there was second wave. Maximum deaths were there during 2nd wave. At that time also there was shortage of health workers and specially nurses to treat those who were severely ill.Third wave occurred in winter of 1919. This was also deadly.Social distancing norms only helped to curb further spread. Finally intensity reduced by summer of 1920.Similarly pandemics came subsequently also1930 - Flu1957-58 Flu ( H2N2 virus)1968 - Flu ( H3N3 virus )2009 - Flu ( H1N1 virus )In the pandemic that we faced 100 years back the remedy was
#use masks , wash hands and maintain social distancing.Other ways of fighting flu was
# wear camphor bags around the neck.
# Take Aspirin which was patented product of Bayer back then. There were certain mistakes also during this pandemic
# Philadelphia went ahead with Liberty Parade on September 28 due to insistence of people who were in seat of power. The parade was attended by tens of thousands of Philadelphians. The outcome was 2 lac became sick and total casualties were 15,000. # In certain section of the world these symptoms were diagnosed as normal flu and not Spanish flu which also increased casualties. In this pandemic also the business cycle has to continue and without support of people same is not possible.# Many businesses have made their operations "contactless"# Long meetings in the Conference Room is thing of the past and it is now Video Conference.# Travel for business has reduced or nonexistent now. #Communications have now become paperless and without any contact.# Fund transfers have become now online and there is no exchange of cheque or cash.In short many organizations have taken steps to make their employees 'safe'
Another thing is that prolonged stay without any work and continuously watching TV and social media can push oneself in the depression. Many of us have lost their near and dear relatives/friends in this pandemic. We must grieve their untimely deaths and offer help to affected families. In order to generate funds business cycle needs to continue. Today if front line health workers decide to withdraw themselves due to pandemic then what would be the condition of the nation? This Pandemic is there for last more than 1 year and after 2nd wave there could be 3rd wave. No one knows as to when will this Pandemic will go away. There is no option but to learn to stay with it with all SOPs and precautions. These difficult times too would also pass. Datt Udas
