Other side of Covid_19 Lockdown-Enjoy Silence.Recently there has been outbreak of Corona Virus which has forced many cities to have complete lockdown. The virus started in China and made maximum casualties in Italy and now has spread all over the globe. The only way to curtail is to avoid infection from one human being to another and hence social distance is to be maintained.Offices are closed, malls, theatres, school, colleges closed. Trains and bus operations are suspended. This has created complete Silence.I belong to city of Mumbai which never sleeps. But today she is sleeping and that too without snoring. Earlier when we wanted to enjoy peace then only option was to go out of town. Try and find any hill station and quiet corner to be able to be within yourself. Now due to lockdown there is no traffic and hence no honking and vehicular pollution. Due to reduced commercial activities phone is not ringing as often and so also door bell. Train sounds are not heard and so also aircraft noise is reduced due to less number of flights.Initially it was very difficult and we were used to just getting up and get going. It did not matter to us about sound of car radio, vehicles honking in front of you and behind you, vehicles honking even at red signal, loud speakers blaring at some function or other, crackers being bursted for celebration, band, Baja and baraat, procession on road etc. We really had no choice but to listen to this. In fact we were used to this continuous sound. The decibel levels of sound in certain parts of city were even beyond tolerable limit of human ear. However now we have started enjoying this Silence and learning more about the same.Silence means complete absence of sound. When there is Silence there are lot of other things open up. One can go within. You can be face to face with yourself and can hear your heart beat. You can listen to silence and learn from it.Many times we are faced with critical situations and when in silence we ponder over situation then we find way out.Silence means the complete absence of sound; it also means listening to real things. By real things I mean birds chirping, tree swaying, water flowing & own thoughts.Even in group Silence is your great strength. It makes you good listener. People want to be heard. If you are silent and listening carefully then that communication is more effective.Words once said cannot be taken back. One regrets later for wrong things said which also damages relationship. Silence is space between feelings and response. It makes you to give right response. It also prevents you from saying something in fret of anger.Silence helps you to observe body language of others. It also helps you to read other person better.Silence is great Negotiator. It has been observed that in negotiations if other party makes any proposal and if you take long pause before saying yes or no then in all probability proposal is likely to be improved. While practicing silence one can also list down things which have happened in life for which one is grateful to God. This will also help in weeding away negative thoughts. Silence is only frightening to people who are compulsively verbalizing.I would request everyone to enjoy silence. Give your brain and other faculties a break. Sit still. Connect with nature and you will hear music in your ears which would be great feeling. Datt _Udasdatt.udas63@gmail.com
