Lessons from Brexit to rest of the World.
Lessons from Brexit to rest of the world.
The Brexit saga in the Great Britain is going on for last more than 4 years and still there is uncertainty about the future.
The current Government is having majority in parliament. They are also holding referendum from public in favor of Brexit but still they are not able to implement the same.
This is an eye opener for those who brag about holding absolute majority in Parliament and wanting to implement everything which they feel is right.Democracy can put break to such efforts.
Brexit means Britain exiting from European Union (EU). EU was initially formed by 4 countries and later joined by other European countries bringing present tally to 28. They have unified currency and trade concessions. Free movement of People, Goods, Services and Capital within internal markets. They can travel across borders without any hindrance. There is also ease in tourists moving across Europe.
However some section of people in Britain felt that they are getting raw deal in EU and they should exit. This movement started gaining momentum and Government decided to go for public opinion. Then Prime Minister David Cameron was against Brexit. However the majority voted in favor of Brexit. David could see complications ahead and he opted out of PM position. Theresa May was made the Prime Minister.
However if you analyze referendum then only 52% voted in favor of Brexit and 48% against it. 17.4 million people said "Yes" and 16.1 million people said " No". Also total voting was 72%. Thus we cannot conclude that majority wanted Brexit. It is aborderline case.
Further region wise analysis shows that Scotland and Northern Ireland were against exit. England (Except London) was in favor of Brexit.
Brexit basically means going solo. This has sown seeds of independence among United Kingdom members and Ireland is already pushing their long pending agenda of independence. They want to exit Britain.
India and Kenya can take clue from this situation. India has 28 states and Kenya 52 provinces. Each region speaks different language and people from different regions use English to communicate with each other. The streak of independence which people can develop can be catastrophic.
The countries coming together and forming union is not new thing. We have USSR, USA, SAARC, Czechoslovakia etc. But then we have seen disintegration in case of first and last example.
One typical thing which happened in UK parliament is that ruling party MPs were not supporting resolution tabled by their own floor leader and Prime Minister. PM had to face no confidence motion from her party MPs and second in Parliament itself. She has survived somehow.
Another thing which is happening now is that PM is wanting to make truce with opposition to see that bill is through. This is typical situation which can replicate in rest of the world.
Britain is active member in EU and before making exit demand they should have formulated rules for anyone wanting to exit EU. I am sure there must be rules for those wanting to join and similarly there can be rules for those who want to exit. Now they are struggling to make deal with EU and EU is acting tough. The things have come to such a breaking point that Britain may exit without any deal.
Thus when you have responsibility of whole nation on your shoulder, one needs to prepare for path and make sure that things happen smoothly after decision is taken.
Another thing which happened is when Govt started implementing Brexit modalities there were numerous questions like trade at border, people residing in UK etc. for which no satisfactory answer was available. When UK actually exits there would be check on goods at border and there is likely to be shortage of essential supplies to British people. This has further created cloud in people's mind.If referendum is held again then result may be different.Whether Brexit happens or does not happen? This question probably only God can answer. The situation has created lessons for rest of the world.
